Jamie Decker’s Got Brains … and She’ll Let You to Hold Them in Your Hands

Jamie Decker’s Got Brains … and She’ll Let You to Hold Them in Your Hands

by Tim Miner on May 23, 2019

Charlottean Jamie Decker knows you … inside and out.

And, it’s her mission that you know what she knows.

Jamie is the founder of Charlotte-based, Experience Anatomy. Her company preserves human organs through the process of plastination created by Dr. Gunther von Hagens. She was inspired to learn from Dr. von Hagens after his Body Worlds exhibition visited Discovery Place science museum in 2007. This experience was exhilarating for her. She discovered that Dr. Von Hagens was speaking at a conference a short time later and drove there to meet him. Jamie impressed Dr. von Hagens so much, he invited her to study under his direction (and on scholarship) at his Gubener Plastinate GmbH in Germany.

Today, Jamie remains the only American who has extensively trained under von Hagens. And, she’s brought her knowledge home to Charlotte, founding Experience Anatomy.

Jamie’s passion is to help people understand more about the world that exists under our skin. Her hope is that her company can help people take more control of their health care because they understand how they work.

Jamie spoke to a crowd of 350+ at CreativeMornings/Charlotte on May 3. You can watch that below. But, much of Jamie’s story was left unexplored on stage. So, Matt Olin and Tim Miner dove a little deeper into her story and her passion on a CreativeMornings Rewind edition The Biscuit Podcast.
